At BIDR Auctions, we believe every vehicle has a story—and sometimes, that story is just beginning when the auction ends. Recently, we had the pleasure of connecting a passionate buyer from Michigan with a truly unique 1961 Chevrolet C60, listed on our platform for live auction. What followed was more than just a sale; it was a 1,700-mile father-son adventure, a testament to the power of classic cars to create lifelong memories.
The Adventure Begins
Our buyer, with a little encouragement from his wife (“being proactive about my potential midlife crisis,” he jokes), set his sights on a beautifully rebuilt Chevy C60 in Jensen Beach, Florida. After the live auction, the reserve price was not met. However, the BIDR team didn't give up there. They helped broker the sale and coordinated the handoff between buyer and seller. The plan? Fly down from Michigan with his dad and drive their new prize all the way home.
Captains Log: The Journey Home

The adventure kicked off with a flight from Appleton, Wisconsin, down to West Palm Beach, Florida. Upon arrival, our buyer and his dad met Norman from BIDR Auctions and Dave, the truck’s owner and builder, at Norman’s shop—a haven for Ford GTs, Shelbys, and other exotics. After a quick tour and even quicker paperwork, the journey north began. The first stop: Daytona Beach, with the Chevy C60 flexing its muscles on the open road.

No classic road trip is complete without a bit of drama. After a sunrise cruise along Daytona Beach’s famous sands, the C60 decided it preferred moving fast to idling in the Florida heat, prompting a quick pit stop for oil and coolant. The rest of the day was filled with highway miles, a traffic jam (thanks to a semi fire), and plenty of attention from fellow drivers—honks, photos, and plenty of thumbs up. The day ended with a well-deserved rest in Perry, Georgia.

With the C60 running strong, the crew powered through Atlanta, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Bowling Green, racking up over 400 miles before bedding down in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Smooth sailing, great scenery, and the satisfaction of watching the miles roll by in a piece of automotive history.

Indiana’s roads may have been rough, but spirits stayed high. After a full day behind the wheel, the team made it to Milwaukee, with only a few stops for transmission fluid and a crash course in O’Reilly’s Auto Parts locations. Finding a hotel was a challenge, but the adventure continued undeterred.

The final stretch took them up Highway 41, where the buyer’s dad peeled off to pick up his own truck at the Appleton Airport. Soon after, the C60 rolled into its new Michigan home—ready for the next chapter and some well-earned family joyrides.
