The Only Singers In America
Two genuine Singer-reimagined Porsche 911s are about to become the only Singers for sale anywhere in the United States — and both are headed to BIDR. They're not up for auction just yet, but the wait is short: a DLS and a DLS Turbo, both finished, numbers-matching, drive-it-home cars, not renderings or a waitlist spot.
If you know, you know. If you don't: Singer Vehicle Design doesn't build cars so much as it re-litigates what an air-cooled 911 is capable of, one client commission at a time, with zero factory affiliation and famously long waitlists. The DLS program — "Dynamics and Lightweighting Study" — is the closest thing Singer has to a technical thesis statement, developed with Williams Advanced Engineering and the late Porsche engine architect Hans Mezger. The DLS Turbo is what happens when that same team points its obsession at forced induction and Porsche's 934/5 racing heritage instead.
We've seen both cars in person. This is our attempt to explain why the phones have not stopped ringing since.
The DLS: The Purest 911 Ever Built
Unveiled by Singer and Williams Advanced Engineering as the ultimate expression of the air-cooled 911, the DLS pairs a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six — co-developed with Hans Mezger and revving to 9,000 rpm for roughly 500 hp — with a full carbon-fiber body, magnesium and titanium components throughout, and a chassis, suspension, and centerlock wheel system engineered by the same people who build Formula 1 cars. There is no substitute for it, and Singer has built fewer than a hundred.
This particular commission leans into that pedigree rather than hiding it. It's finished in a paint-to-sample exterior color with ghosted, light-painted side stripes and decklid lettering, titanium bead-blasted bright trim, and a gold decklid badge. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in DLS Semi Aniline leather with visible carbon across the dashboard, bolster, center tunnel, and seat backs, a titanium-and-magnesium shift mechanism, and an 18-karat gold-detailed tachometer facing the driver. Every panel of this car was specified by someone who has clearly done their homework.

The DLS Turbo: 934/5 Heritage, Reinvented
Where the DLS is Singer's love letter to naturally aspirated engineering, the DLS Turbo is its love letter to Porsche's turbocharged racing history — specifically the 934/5 endurance cars of the late 1970s. Under a wide, box-arch body sits a 3.8-litre flat-six with twin turbochargers, electric wastegates, and air-to-water intercooling, sending more than 700 hp through a 6-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels at north of 9,000 rpm. Singer offers it in track-focused or road-focused aerodynamic configurations, each shaped using the same CFD process used on the DLS.
This build reads track-focused from the badge back: a box-arch coupe with the track wing and front bumper, a carbon-fiber roof panel, and Michelin Sport Cup 2s on turbofan magnesium centerlock wheels. It's finished in a deep, paint-to-sample candy red with black anodized matte exterior trim and a platinum-plated decklid badge, over a charcoal Alcantara and red leather interior with visible gloss carbon on the console, seat backs, and rear air box. A Meta Trak tracker comes fitted, and a machined door insert leaves room to "state your business" before you even turn the key.
"The results of turbocharging our advanced 4-valve, high-revving DLS engine have been quite spectacular."
— Rob Dickinson, Founder, Singer Vehicle Design
Cars like these don't come up for public bid often, and they rarely come up two at a time in the same country, let alone the same auction house. If you've been circling the Singer world from a distance, this is the closest most collectors will ever get to that program without a multi-year commission list of their own.
